The War on Eczema Part One

Eczema, psoriasis and rosacea – all cousins and all a bit mysterious. No one quite knows what causes any of these skin ailments. Dermatologist even scratch their heads a bit. The best they can do is treat with a variety of creams, many of which are steroid cream. The most natural healing creams are those with an oatmeal or coconut oil base.

I was plagued with eczema as a child. I took strong steroids and steroids creams to control it and get rid of it. I thought it was gone for life but occasionally it would flare up again. I’d attack it with steroid creams and win the battle. Little did I know I was loosing the war along the way.

During my childhood through adult hood I would categorize myself as overweight. Despite my walks and workouts I couldn’t seem to loose weight. Then in 2011 I finally had an aha moment, I was eating way too many processed and convince foods. I decided to give up fast food for 40 days. This led me down a fantastic path and I was in the best health and shape of my life.

Fast forward to 2014, I am dating my Sam. We are in love, we are having fun, we are eating out….and drinking out…a lot. We are both gaining weight faster than you could imagine. We are both waddling around feeling like full ticks. In fact I remember us ringing in the new year saying we felt like stuffed ticks. And suddenly my old enemy comes back eczema. And it came back even more fierce than ever before. This time as giant sores on my chin, miserable and ugly sores. I also got it on both thighs.

I went to FOUR dermatologist and my general practitioner. They had no idea what was causing it. I spent a fortune on prescription medicines and creams non of which did anything to help! I kept asking them, could this be hormonal? Could this be something I’m eating? They dismissed my concerns. My GP took me more seriously and ran a blood test, she didn’t find anything other than I was low in Vitamin D. Little did I know then, that would be one of many first clues to the source of this culprit…

It would take me over a year to even figure out one of many trigger points for this enemy, and it would be through hours of research via the internet, not one of my 5 doctors.

That discovery next.
