Curlsz’ Corner

On my photography site I had a “word of the day” which was basically my favorite things. Yeah right like I could update anything every day! So here are some favorites, some will rotate through periodically.

Right Now I Love…

  • Topo Chico – http://www.topochico.com/ – it’s just fizzy mineral water but add with lime and it is FANtastic! Great with spicy food. A bit like beer with zero calories.
  • Indoor Plants, specifically succulents. They come in such great colors, shapes and styles. And they’re really affordable – anywhere from $2-$8 and you have instant decorations. Coupled with great little ceramic pots that you can find for about $3 to $5
  • Purging…stuff that is. Ridiculous ridiculous stuff.

My RSS Feed – A.K.A – Blog’s I Read

  • Dooce – humor, snarky, sarcasm, quick whit and mad observational skills – topped off with a dog that will balance anything including a beer bottle on his head….all for cheese.
  • Apartment Therapy – for the inner interior design freak – also has great tips for mad organization techniques.
  • Suwannee – North Carolina designer that now has her own shop – the things this girl can find on Craig’s List and Ebay and revitalize amaze me.
  • The Daily Coyote – The daily photo journal of life in the Wyoming mountains with a coyote, dog, cat, dairy cow and more. Her sister site is Honey Rock Dawn.
  • Reason’s to be Happy You Don’t Have Kids – even if you have children Karyn’s humor is great and rather refreshing for a couple to be so honest that NO they don’t want kids!
  • The Pioneer Woman – Annie Oakley and Martha Stewart’s love child got a blog…and she writes well too!

Favorite Austin Spots

  • A new fave of mine is The Snack Bar on South Congress – kitchy decor and that 60′s road side diner feel meets south Austin. All nutritious organic selections that are tasty tasty – I recommend the Euro Scramble: spinach, eggs, salmon with a tossed salad.
  • For Indian I have to recommend G’raj Mahal downtown (trailer eatery) – it’s outdoor seating and BYOB – try the Naan with cheese and / or the Naan with raisins and nuts – scrumptious.

Favorite Reads

  • Diana Gabaldon The Outlander Series – this is a commitment – currently there are 7 books I think. Historical fiction with an amazing love story.
  • Leaf Enger’s Peace Like a River – this book really surprised me. A beautiful story of faith, miracles and a father’s love and commitment for his family.
  • The Sparrow – it’s a sci-fi novel but more of a modern day reflection on the venture into the “new world” similar to when the explorers discovered the Americas

Taking Recommendations

I’m currently on the quest for ______ maybe you can provide a good recommendation.

  • Sour Ale’s – I love Eric’s sour ale, but have yet to find a place that both carries and keeps it in stock.
  • New fiction – especially historical.
  • Cell phone – my blackberry’s dying on me, what should I get next? I have Sprint and get good service etc with the, I really don’t want to change carriers for a stupid phone.
